A new film for Gucci’s men’s tailoring collection sees three music icons come together for the ultimate house party.
Shot in February by director Harmony Korine, the photographer behind Gucci’s pre-fall 2019 collection book, the film is set in the bliss of the Hollywood Hills at the ‘Godfather of Punk’, Iggy Pop’s house. Debuting Alessandro Michele’s#GucciTailoring collection, A$AP Rocky and Tyler, the Creator join Iggy Pop (and pet parrot Biggy Pop) for an afternoon of fun, food and fashion.
The collection is reminiscent of classic 70s styles, with all three artists sporting bold prints in their own distinctive way. Before he goes for an outfit change, host Iggy Pop dons a bold printed matching set and quintessential oversized square sunglasses, with a bright blue hyacinth macaw on his arm. A$AP Rocky sports the perfect longline coat for winter with an orange side bag and Tyler keeps it preppy with his deep green sweater vest paired with tailored trousers and a shirt.
The three spend the afternoon going from bathroom to dining room to terrace dancing and goofing around to disco classic, Cerrone’s ‘Supernature’. “It was beautiful to see these three men together, seemingly different but very similar”,explains Michele. “I like to tell the story of elegance in completely arbitrary and unexpected ways. Male elegance can be unpredictable and strange”, he continues.
And this campaign is unpredictability personified: in one shot the group shares a pot of spaghetti, this time Tyler rocking a bold green double-breasted suit. In another,A$AP grins from ear to ear as he fixes his pink cable knit sweater and red tailored trousers.
As the threat of COVID-19 pandemic has increased, we’re living vicariously through the coolest house party the fashion world has ever seen, courtesy of Gucci’s Alessandro Michele and art director, Christopher Simmonds.
