odest fashionistas are looking for designers that are contemporary and have that je ne sais quoi. Our new Designer To Watch is ARSHYS from DUBAI. The brand understands what today’s client is looking for. The collection is produced in Dubai and has a Hint of Modesty. After styling, the looks any women with a little gallery girl in her could wear the brand actually.

As I get ready for a trip to Dubai, I have been looking for emerging designers from the region. As a stylist and now modest stylish too. I look for brands that understand the aspects of modest dressing but design contemporary collections. That is why I wanted to work with our latest Designer To Watch: ARSHYS.

ARSHYS is a bold, quirky contemporary womenswear brand using fashion as a platform to raise awareness on social matters and to use positive re-enforcement messaging through the art of digitally drawn typography and graffiti-prints.  The brand supports slow fashion creating small modular capsule collection each with its own positive voice, produced ethically in the designer’s own home town Dubai.

Designer To Watch: ARSHYS

We sat down with the designer behind ARSHYS the Emirati designer Arshia Alam. Who named her line after her nickname. Which literally means Throne in Persian. So we give her the Designer to Watch throne today.

Emirati designer Arshia Alam Interview

What was your first memory of Fashion?

Watching the Disney classic cartoon movie Cinderella as a kid and thinking about how clothing transformed Cindrella’s look. It was pure magic.

Why Fashion?

Why not fashion? it is a beautiful way of expressing oneself, especially through clothing.

Print or Online Magazines Pros & Cons?

I would say both. Online as we are living in a digital-savvy world and the stories could be shared with millions of viewers in real-time. At the same time, print magazine will always have its charm and would appeal to masses who like to take a break every now and then from this digital madness and flip pages the old fashion way.

Who do you think is a great fashion journalist?

A great fashion journalist is someone who doesn’t tell you the obvious and impose their opinions but rather provoke your thoughts and let you reflect and decide if the subject matter makes sense or not.

What celebrity/musician /model would you love to dress? Dead or alive.

Coming from the Middle East I would say queen Rania of Jordan and anyone who gives meaning to fashion through their work.

Tell us about your Dubai fashion journey.?

Launched my brand in 2017 as a reaction to a piece of news. My first collection was about “Peace” and that became my signature which is to convey a meaningful message through my clothing.

How does modest fashion impact your business?

I feel modest fashion is a reflection of who you are and how you want to be dressed. There is no right and wrong in fashion. It is a personal choice and should be celebrated as is. I create my designs for the masses and how they want to mix and match those pieces to make it more modest is completely up to them. I love creating modular/interchangeable pieces and giving my customers a lot of choices.

After styling pieces from the collection by ARSHYS, I can tell the designer understands today’s customer either modest fashionista or street style streetwear maven. It is all about how you style it, a little jacket with embellishment can make an ordinary out pop! With a little Habibi flavour. Thank you, Arshia Alam, for letting us get to know you better and your ARSHYS collection.
