Lockdown is relaxing, we're all slowly starting to go places. The 'new normal' is being introduced. Shoes are essential. We've rounded up our favourite footwear; shoes you'll be proud to step out of lockdown wearing.

Summer sandals appear to be the way forward if the current temperatures are anything to go by. I'm a trainers girl through and through but I might be a sandals convert by the end of the week. That being said, if you're avoiding public transport and walking more places than usual, a trusty pair of sneakers might be your shoe saviour so we've included our favourite, lightweight styles for you too. Then there are some who will wear boots whatever the weather - well, if it's good enough for Coachella then who are we to argue walking the city streets?

Summer Sandals

Stylish womenswear brand KNITSS has created some chic summer slides - perfect for this warmer weather we're being treated to right now. These slip on sandals are made from soft materials - breathable Italian yarns that are chic, comfortable and colourful. The Marge espadrille-style sandals are perfect for dressing your feet up a bit now we're out and about a little more, coming in a beautiful mix of pastel colours in a subtle geometric print. The shoes are part of the brand's SS20 'Summer in the City' collection, aptly named as that's probably where we're mostly going to be thanks to the current situation! There's also a selection of knit sneakers and pretty patterned flat espadrilles to choose from as well. But why not strut about looking contemporary chic - the perfect city life style.

Dr. Martens

Your favourite Voss sandals have had a revamp - now available in a new animal print collection. This lightweight sandal is a popular one to make a statement in this summer. I was always a fan of the studded designs, finding them perfect for day to night outfit transitioning, the studs giving the day sandal look a nighttime feel. The new collection is built from bold Hair On leather with black Hydro leather straps and stacked on a serrated sole - in case anyone wondered how you keep the attitude going switching from Dr. Martens boots to anything else. There's the subtle black and grey giraffe print, if you're going for a more understated look or you can say it loud and proud with the black and leopard print design.

Trusty Trainers

The Fila Disruptor II's are an iconic model of trainer from the brand - and particularly useful post-lockdown. Why? I don't know about you but if you're planning on avoiding public transport as much of possible and if you're not so street savvy about riding a bike in the city, walking is your new mode of transport - and you'll be needing some comfortable trainers. The durable rubber sole makes them practical for walking wherever you go and the summery sugar pink hue of the Liquid Luster design ensures they're a stylish pair of shoes. Originally gaining attraction as a controversial trainer - with their oxymoron 'ugly fashion' signature style, the Disruptor II's have since become a staple in every fashionista's (who avoids heels) wardrobe.

All Birds

Not only are All Birds shoes eco-friendly (green points, yes), they're also the most ridiculously comfortable form of footwear. The latest addition to the brand's collection, the Tree Dashers are All Birds' most technical shoe yet. The new style are flexible fit, lightweight and breathable so it's the prefect makeup for a summer shoe. The sugar cane midsole offers maximum comfort with its SweetFoam‚ĄĘ made with the world's first carbon negative green EVA, ensuring cushion, stability and energy return. The wool heel lining includes a signature ZQ Merino wool along the heel counter to centre, support, and lock your foot in place - perfect for potential long walks in place of jumping on the tube or bus. Basically enjoy cushioned support, a streamlined fit and a stylish new design.

Boots Whatever the Weather

Despite summer meaning sandals and lightweight trainers might be preferable, there are some of us who just love a classic ankle boot. I don't blame you; pair them with a pretty summer dress and you've got a really cute look. A pair of black boots will go with your entire summer wardrobe - whether you love to embrace bright colours or prefer neutral tones. These black studded ankle booties from Tobi will add a touch of western style to your summer look. Opting for a flatter heel will ensure you're comfy through the summer days and into the summer nights and as we're going for comfortable footwear for the season, no heel means they're easier to walk in for longer too.

And Other Stories

Whether you're doing more walking in your home city or opting for staycations after your holiday abroad got cancelled, these chunky platform hiking boots from And Other Stories are the perfect ones to do it in. The beige and dark tan colour way keeps them current for the season while the contrasting grained leather and suede panelling adds a stylish tone. The chunky rubber platform sole should keep your feet comfortable, while details such as utility striped laces and silver toned hardware will make this pair of shoes the perfect accessory to your summer wardrobe - merging both fashion and function.
