What's been happening this week in the world of sneakers?

I’m back this week with a summary of sneaker news that has been popping up on the scene throughout the last few days.

StockX Farewell

Josh Luber, co founder of giant sneaker marketplace Stock X, has announced that he will be leaving the company, just over a year after he stepped down as CEO, and this news was swiftly confirmed by Business of Fashion. When StockX was founded, it’s offering was purely sneakers, this grew into the reselling heaven that today deals in steetwear, handbags, and other accessories that anyone interested in streetwear culture would dream of. Luber has said that he will most likely look to begin another start-up company, using his entrepreneurial skills. After spending the last year focusing on the innovation within StockX, Josh Luber now moves onto new pastures and we can’t wait to see what venture comes next.

"Sneakerheads"

If you’re a lover of sneakers, then make sure you keep your eyes firmly fixed on Netflix on 25th September, as new show “Sneakerheads” will be available to indulge on. Brought to us by Complex Networks, and Directed by Dave Meyers, this series is targeted towards people who love streetwear and sneaker culture. Allen Maldonado plays the leading role of an ex-sneakerhead, looking to dust off his kicks and get back on the hunt for holy grail sneakers, but hits a bump or two along the way. No more spoilers from me - you can check out the trailer for Sneakerheads here and start your countdown until 25th September to start binging!

Black Friday Frenzy

We got a peek this week at the Air Jordan 4 “Fire Red” (set to release on Black Friday November 27th) This shoe first hit stores in 1989, and Fire Red was one of the 4 original colourways, and hugely popular due to the red/white/black colours closely resembling that of the Chicago Bulls team. It has been revealed that this pair of AJ4’s will include the “Nike Air” lettering on the heel too. A super clean OG sneaker, and with this pair set to be released on Black Friday, I’m expecting a full on frenzy.. Anybody that cops a pair will be considered extremely lucky.

Packer x New Balance

Longtime Sneaker & Streetwear retailer Packer is joining up with New Balance for a project celebrating “Made in USA” craftsmanship. The 992 silhouette has been one of the most popular of the year when it comes to collabs, and the Packer pair is definitely not one to miss. The autumnal yellow tones on the suede material give this 992 a ‘perfect for fall’ vibe. NB have had some huge collabs in 2020 alone, and this pairing is going to be limited & hard to get hold of, as it stands they are going to be available on 12th September, but will be exclusively on Packer.com - better be quick!

With the growing number of sneakers releasing daily and collabs popping up left right and centre, the sneaker industry is becoming more & more popular, making pairs much more difficult to secure.
