Believe it or not, we've only just entered summer. Sure, some recent so-called heatwaves might suggest otherwise, but strictly speaking, this is a season that begins in the latter part of June. From a styling perspective, this usually has its own repercussions. It's usually at this time of the year in which we see a notable difference in fashion trends, fueled by the umpteen catwalks at the shows around the globe.
Suffice it to say, things have changed a little this year. However, with much of the world starting to see at least some light at the end of the pandemic tunnel, it might still allow us to sample the trends that the fashionistas are tipping for 2020. Bearing this in mind, whether you are based around Covent Garden or any other shopping district, arm yourself with the following trend knowledge to get yourself equipped for summer.
Heels are still in, but with a twist
For as long as the world spins round heels are going to be in, but this year there seems to be a summer twist. Rather than sticking with the classic heel, designers are starting to turn to ones of the square-toed variety. It's something that looks absolutely absurd on first glance, but it is starting to win over fashionistas and is still able to add that elusive height to your appearance, in a bit of a unique way.
On the subject of footwear...
We've just talked about footwear, but let's welcome another surprise. The thought of wearing anything other than boots over your trousers would have been unheard of (and potentially laughed at) several years ago. Now, it's becoming firmly on-trend - although the choice of footwear is crucial. Strappy heels are the go-to choice and this seems to be a style that's applicable whether it's a casual outing with friends or the usual trip to the office.
It's not just about printed tops
As we all know, printed tops certainly aren't anything new. In fact, printed stockings aren't either. However, for years the two garments have been worn separately - there's been no attempt to pair them together. Well, things are changing. The catwalks are preaching matching tops and stockings, regardless of the style. As long as it has a print, it passes, and the whole outfit is regarded as the definition of confidence. The brasher and louder the print, the more emphatic the result.
Handbags: they're finally practical
For a long time, it could be argued in some quarters that handbags were anything-but practical. History has shown that they tend to be on the small size and in modern-day life, just don't have the capacity to hold many of the must-have carry-around items.
Well, things seem to be changing. The bucket-style bag certainly isn't anything new, but it's making a grounding resurgence in fashion. They don't have to be huge in size, but the shape allows a surprising blend of practicality meeting style.
We have had a summer of being stuck indoors, but with restrictions easing, you will soon be able to step out in style again!
