A moment for reflection...

So this is usually the part where I talk about the latest sneaker releases or who’s wearing the freshest kicks on their feet... But I wanted to take a moment to pause and reflect on a tremendous talent and all round wonderful person that the world sadly lost this week.

‍Chadwick Boseman tragically lost his 4 year long battle with Colon cancer on 28th August 2020. Leaving the world in shock and disbelief, as he kept his illness a secret, with only family & handful of close working partners actually knowing the true extent of his fight.

Chadwick is best known for his starring role as King T’Challa in Marvel’s Black Panther, inspiring the youth & becoming a hugely influential figure, especially within the Black community. Having that representation of a black superhero was so important and powerful, it resonated and touched the lives of many. Boseman also spectacularly played roles of Soul singer James Brown, Jackie Robinson, and Thurgood Marshall to name a few.

A Real Life Superhero

But this beloved actor was not just influential on the big screen, he was constantly giving back and spreading joy to others, even whilst battling his own personal illness. Chadwick devoted a lot of his time visiting terminally ill children in hospitals, working with the Make-a-Wish foundation. In his own words in a text message to Black Panther Exec. Producer Nate Moore, Boseman - speaking about the children - said that he wanted to "ease their suffering and bring joy for a moment". A beautiful sentiment coming from somebody who knew exactly what those kids were going through.

He also spent his life dedicated to fighting for social justice, and equality for black lives. He used his platforms to urge everybody to do the right thing - to dismantle the systemic racism that still exists today, to support black owned businesses, and as seen in one of his most recent instagram posts, to vote. Chadwick also raised money to generate more PPE for the front-line workers battling COVID19 everyday during the pandemic.

Chadwick Boseman was a real life superhero. A king on and off the screen. A pure soul with a huge heart. The world can learn so much from his work, his humble nature, and how he carried himself.

As it’s Sneaker Freak Friday, it only seemed right to look back on some of the times that Chadwick blessed us with some amazing fits (of course with heat on his feet!) as dressing super fly and taking it to another level was also on his long list of attributes.

Rest in Power King, Wakanda Forever.
