ersace Spring Summer 2020 Womenswear runway show is the most talked about, most tweeted and most shared fashion story this week coming out of Milan. It says a lot about fashion and what age means in today’s world. Jennifer Lopez looks better then she did twenty years ago.


Twenty years ago she was only Jenny from the block, but now she is a fashion icon too. With a banging body at 50, teaching us all age is just a number and young ladies of today need to get shit tight now.


Remember the time before you could find any photo you wanted on the internet. It was at the Grammy Awards in February 2000 when Jennifer Lopez took her iconic red carpet turn in Donatella Versace’s jungle-print dress. You know the one that plunged precipitously a couple of inches below her navel and actually looks better on her today than back in the day.

A time when she was dating Puff Daddy and getting in trouble.

Fan’s back then wanted the dress in a pre-eBay error. They went hunting for that green dress, and a still nascent Google was so ill-equipped to handle the traffic. Because of this fashion music moment, Google Images was born. It was a boom for the company, and the implications for Versace and co. were huge.

Donatella said, “We all follow technology; it’s at the centre of our lives today, but 20 years ago it wasn’t. I’m proud that we inspired Google Images.”

The Versace Spring Summer 2020 celebrated this milestone. The latest Versace collection brought the jungle prints, and Google provided the Tilt Brush technology. This created the digital art projections playing on the walls of the makeshift Pantheon built for the occasion.

And J Lo’s bottom and walk are what made it all work as she glided down the runway.

After the final model made her circle, pictures of J.Lo in the iconic number scrolled by on the walls, then Donatella said, “Okay, Google, now show me the real jungle dress,” and out Lopez glided in an even more naked version than the original, as bronzed, buff, and gorgeous as ever. Needless to say, it was mere minutes before she was a trending topic, and the new dress was near the top of a Jennifer Lopez Google Image search.

On the runway, the energy couldn’t have been higher. The crowd was on its feet for a better view—and a better camera angle—the moment she made her entrance. Every fashion editor in the front row was happy to document the OG doing her thing in the iconic dress.

The surprise guest factor energized Donatella. This was the sharpest and sexiest she’s gone in some time. It was definitely less merchandised than last season’s outing, and in that sense, it felt the quite late ’90s.

Go back and look at the original jungle-print show and what strikes you is how streamlined and un-accessorize the overall aesthetic is. There are other similarities.

The collection was not only about the J Lo dress, we saw prints that were old and new from past collections. Yet the Italian brand is all about the Versace prints, yet the designer didn’t ignore black in either case. And here it was the black looks that really registered. The tailored coatdress that opened the show was a must-have outfit. For red carpet moments.

Interestingly, a particular kind of ’90s sexiness came back to the DNA of the brand, heavy on the black and the stilettoes. Donatella showed us that she has a more vital claim to the era of the 90s and she is the Queen of Fashion and Music collaborations.  Versace Spring Summer 2020 collection and Jennifer Lopez made being 50 sexy as fuck! And Amber Valletta was the added sauce of the show.
